Proud Mary

It's interesting that I ran across this Textile design company after spending most of my bus trip from Peru to Bolivia thinking of different business models I'd like to research for my consideration. Proud Mary certainly is like minded!

Proud Mary was started in 2008 when owner, Harper Poe returned from volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in South America. After falling deeply in love with the indigenous peoples and brightly colored textiles she decided to combine her passions into a sustainable design business promoting social change. By providing a global exploration of textiles, Proud Mary, supports and empowers global artisans and their families while celebrating their beautiful work!
Proud Mary believes in design that solves problems. They create unique, handcrafted patterned goods that are made in a socially and ecologically responsible manner. Our aim is to establish healthy relationships with artisans in developing nations. These relationships offer a beneficial exchange of ideas and resources. Purchasing product along with access to new markets provides economic growth for the artisan and their families. Through the products, they hope to share the stories of the hands by which they are made.
