In Fez we visited a gallery of handmade copper, silver and bronze plates. These dishes were so intricately designed that I thought they must have been machine-pressed. But the store owner showed us how they’re produced: by making small dents in the metal with a hammer and chisel — some so small that they looked like needles. They take up to 3 weeks of seriously skilled labor.
